For a long time, probably too long, I haven’t got too personal with my blog. In fact, our guys at iThemes have, in recent months, encouraged me to be more transparent and personable about our business.

I’m taking their input seriously …

So if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you might know I’ve been in Taos, New Mexico this week with my buddy Brian Gardner.

After I took him to the airport in Albuquerue this morning, I had about 5 hours of driving in the car and snapped this self-portrait on my way to our family cabin.

Here’s how I described it in Facebook:

“[This is] what happens when Jennifer (my wife) isn’t around to make sure i’m decent for public viewing …. i’m scary looking (need a shave), have worn this shirt for 3 days in a row (it’s SO comfortable!), I don’t match (of course), and am trying to take a self-portrait with my iphone (not recommended) alongside the road (i think people locked their doors when they saw me).

Now … how’s that for transparent and personable?!

But seriously … on most of my blogs I haven’t gotten very personable, rather I’ve focused on providing practical content like tips and tutorials.

And (un)surprisingly, I get more comments on posts where I do stupid or off-the-cuff stuff like this … so here’s my test … showing you a grungy picture of me (yes, my new hobby is going to be exercising!) and hoping you find some humor in it!

Doing some of the groundwork for Happy Joe has caused me to go back to some foundational beliefs about blogging … and our tagline is going to be “Blog Yourself.”

Blog your life … your thoughts, ideas, photos, whatever … (here’s our 4 credos about what blogging should be)

Blogging is just an easy way to share your life with the world … online.

And with this post, I’m going to start doing that myself more!
