The Purple Cow Hunting Season

By Cory Miller
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I really love this post from John titled Tis Better to Be Found Than to Find. It’s at the core of what we’re trying to do with iThemes — build quality web templates in WordPress that take away the pain (time, money and hassle) of creating beautiful and effective websites.

I think a big part of it is creating Purple Cows (article) then using viral marketing to be “hunted.”

As an entrpereneur, this is always what I’m trying to do. Build a product so incredibly “remarkable” … something that makes our customers life easier or better … and position or place it in a way that the maximum amount of prospective customers find it, share it, and buy it.

Sequoia calls these types of products or solutions “Pain Killers” — “Pick the one thing that is of burning importance to the customer then delight them with a compelling solution.”

OK … now back to creating and tweaking my own version of a Hunting Season of Purple Cows and Pain Killers.
