Google PageRank, Fortune Telling and BCS Football

According to Daniel and Bob, Google is updating their PageRank stuff, which in laymen’s terms means … how King Google determines your worth, value and significance (not personally, I think).

Evidentally, they use some sort of fancy, smanchy math formula (alga-rhythm or is it algo-rithmm-m) to determine who matters in cyberspace in their search results … (if you’re confused, just think of the BCS Championship series’ method for determining who makes it to the Big Daddy Bowl, playing for the crystal … and then the ensuing fallout from those who thought they should be No. 1 and No. 2, but probably got beat by an NCAA Div. III team for their opener.)

Here’s a neat tool (ala Daniel) … for checking your potential rank called LiveRank.

And another one (ala Bob) … called DigPageRank.

Along with these sites, I am also using my super secret decoder ring, found in my CrackerJack box, to determine where I’ll land in the rankings … and most specifically, whether or not I’m worth the virtual space I take up …

OK, OK, OK … it’s actually serious to a lot of people.

But hey, even if Google ranks me at a negative 11 … I still have WordPress and my handy dandy Google Sitemap Generator, to help me score high for those obscure, random and irrelevant keywords, right?

Be gentle, King Google … be gentle.

One Rockin Cool Blog Site for Freelancers … And a New Read For Me

I recently discovered FreelanceSwitch … a blog site dedicated to freelancers like myself.

The site has two great things going for it … outstanding content … and outstanding design.

Just love the distinctive look and the email and feed sub buttons. Powered, of course, by none other than WordPress. Rock on, guys!

[BTW, stupid disclaimer: if you don’t realize this, I did NOT design this site … just saying it rocks.]

Two Feet Firmly Planted in the 30s

Today, I’m officially 31 years old …

Wow … last year, when I turned 30 it was a deep time of reflecting on my life and where I’m at, etc. This year is no different.

This year, I’ve made a couple of realizations:

  • I’m getting more and more grey hairs popping up
  • I can eat everything I did when I was 20
  • I think more about health insurance — or aka stability and security — than adventure and job hopping
  • I love having three weeks of vacation every year and bosses who let me do what I’m skilled to do

It’s just real interesting all of this …

My question, as it was last year, is … how do I want to spend the next 10 years of my life?

Where do I want to be when I’m 40?

Good questions indeed … one I’ll be talking to my Lord about …. seeking His wisdom and guidance.

OK, there’s my self-reflection for today.

Chitika’s Excellent Strategy for Getting Tons of Linkbacks, Traffic, and Exposure

Chitika is throwing a 30-day, 30-expert blog bash … it’s chock full of excellent, practical “empower the blogger” type tips from ProBlogger’s Darren Rowse and Daily Blog Tips’s Daniel … and much more.

Here’s a mathematical formula for why this is an excellent strategy:

High profile bloggers sharing practical tips in one 30-day series equals hundreds of linkbacks (count the ones in this post alone) …. plus not to mention the traffic and exposure that’ll be generated from the 30 bloggers.

Good stuff, indeed.
