Your people can go only as far as you can go, dream, think, act or believe.

A business mentor told me:

You are the lid.

It’s true and profound. Your people will not/cannot rise past your best or top or limits.

But there’s more ….

  • You also set the pace.
  • You set the tone.
  • You set the example.
  • You determine what is acceptable or not.

And …. You get what you give.

So when you look at your team, remember … you’re seeing a reflection of you and your leadership.

So with every action or decision or word, consider this:

What message and effect am I sending and intending?
What is the outcome I desire from this?

Because in most cases, you’ll get that back.

Including this: What you tolerate and allow, you get in return.

Every action as a leader has a reaction and is a reflection of you. Is it the one you want?

Your people need answers and guidance to these kinds of questions:

  • Who do you want us to be?
  • How do you want us to operate?
  • Where are the boundaries?
  • What are the expectations?

And the best:

What is our Shared Vision I am so damned energized to contribute together with you?

Today, take a moment to review and reflect.

What are you getting back? What are you seeing?

Where do you want to lead us? and What is required to get there?

And then, the biggie:

Who do YOU need to become to lead us there?

We are looking and watching …. Show us the way.
