Don’t Make It Tougher Than It Needs To Be

I’ve been thinking about product and business ideas that (mostly) I’ve considered and chased over the last 7 or 8 years (especially after my talk at WordCamp Miami on the Highs and Lows of the Product Journey).

And one thing sticks out to me: Sometimes I really make it tough on myself.

I overlook the practical, easiest, straight, fastest, adjacent, obvious option.

The one that’s so obvious it’ll help people, make people happy and huge fans even, and of course make money for us.

I think TOO big — maybe big for my britches, or resources, or talent, or time — sometimes.

I want to chase the glamorous idea.

I want to follow the more sexy path.

I want to seek the awesome ideal.

But there’s the easy one, sitting right there, staring you in your face, filled with opportunity, with less risk, just ready to be had … and you’re in love with the glamorously difficult risky one.

Don’t make it tougher than it needs to be.
